The American architect Walter Lamb is best known for his clean-lined outdoor furniture that oozed the mid-century modern aesthetic. The Radar Hoop chair, with its circular metal frame supported by hairpin style legs, had a webbing of colourful nylon flagline plastic strips. It was light, easy to clean, and was a complete break from heavy pre-war styles popular among the American middle classes.
When it was imported to Asia and got drenched by a tropical thunderstorm, so what?
The chair was the perfect nest to present a new baby and to announce to Laotian friends and family – a new generation has arrived!

This photo comes from the Buddhist Archive in Luang Prabang. The photographer is unknown.
